An investigation into the defragmentation of corrupt memory

The longer a moment lies in the past, the more blurry it becomes. Through recalling a memory it reshapes and takes on new forms and colors, interlinked with who we are at that moment in time. In an attempt to defragment moments via my mother’s memory, previously unseen perspectives emerged, changing the memory in unforeseen ways, interlinking places, senses and emotions of past and present.

To visualize this process, written memories were integrated into childhood pictures with the help of a text editor, unpredictably corrupting the images, just as time does to memory.

One of these defragmented images, holding both my mums and my memory was then used to create a carpet, providing a space for memory exchange and connection, to help each other to not forget.
